"Real" is a matter of opinion with these, as all of them were privately purchased. As far as anybody knows, the Turkish government never issued any. Most of them are German made.

This one looks authentic to me, which means I think it is from the period. It looks like it was made during or shortly after the war.

              True, true
However, in my copy of Ottoman Awards- a massive tome &beautifully illustrated, the author states that these badges were wartime Ottoman awards (my Turkish translation is very bad here but thats' the gist) and he illustrates with a very nice photo of a Turkish (not German) pilot wearing the badge @1916. He does not show an award certificate as he does with most other medals, but also states that this is worthy of a separate book .
              Cheers,

All true. It's a fine distinction, whether the badge had official status or not, but I'm told that it was not actually official. Nonetheless, it was worn and used during the war.

If anyone has a document for it I'd certainly love to see it! For that matter, has anyone ever seen a badge with Turkish hallmarks or arabic writing?
