Mike, that is an interesting point and a very real possibility also.

the other possibility is the one I am speculating on fore years now .

WW1 producers off ek's did not made the iron cores themselves

but did buy them at specialised iron factory's (maybe even owned a few off these factory''s )...who provided all the ek producers with iron core's .

and still did at 1939 ...

In german ,,,,,Fabrik für Orden / Münz- und Prägeanstalt

and old silver parts combined with the new designed ek's as repair and replacement .

this way you get a nice mixture off core's and frames and disc parts ,,similar to what we see here

That may have been true with the 1813s and early 1870s as we see only
a couple of accepted core styles. However with the large number of different
cores we see in the 1914 crosses, I think it's safe to assume that at least some
of the makers had the capabilities to make their own cores.

In general I agree with Greg. From my studies on the cores of maker marked 1914 EK1s, I found that certain makers (groups/clusters of 2, sometimes 3 or 4 makers) had 2 or more types of cores common between them however, it was uncommon for those clusters to overlap. When the clusters did overlap, it was only by one core type. I identified the "slant W" core (I had to ID the core somehow - that's why I coined the phrase) as being common across several clusters of manufacturers though. Confusing - you better believe it!! - and don't ask me for specifics as I don't have my notes with me.

Bottom line though, if there was a centralised agency for 1914EK1 cores, they probably manufactured and distributed the "slant W" core - so for that core type, and only that core type, I tend to agree with Kay. The large diversity of EK1 cores strongly suggests that most manufacturers (or at least small clusters of manufacturers) made their own cores. Further, there would be no need for a centralised core manufacturer to have such a large diversity of core types.

Let me say that I find strange to read that it 's a replacement when we have more examples all with exactly the same parts used, naturally I don't know why, just I think there is more back of this point and explanation coul be not so simple as seems today.
Totally agree Fabri! My only issue with yours was that it did not match any Meybauer i saw so far.

Fact is that it got the generic "slanted W" core that is found in several different makermarked and unmarked crosses.

A frame sometimes found on Godet marked crosses.

A "incused 800" mark that is found on several types, some of them Godet marked and some non maker marked.

And then the "typical Meybayer" hardware? Not PM marked but with the same DRGM number the Meybauers got? Always thought that nr was Meybauers own but it might just be a patent nr?

To me it leans towards Godet, considering all the facts.

edit: Googled Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, lots of interesting reading.
