Thoughts on 1813 Iron Cross?

Hello all

What are you thoughts on this particular piece? From my limited knowledge I would give it the thumbs up. From the pictures the core looks good, the thick hooks on the reverse look period. Also does not look like the ground down 1914 we see occasionally.

Loops too thin, core too smooth, wrong enamel, just my opinion though!

ca. 1900 or so? Maybe a commemorative piece. I own one just like it purchased on eBay for $100 3 years ago.

I'd want to hold this in my hand and get a few opinions before owning it permanently.

Has anyone read the "letter of authentication" included with it? It really doesn't make any sense. Second issue EK1 in the 1830's?? Never heard of such a thing.

--The 'Inheritance List' was created in 1814 because there weren't enough crosses made to go around. When a holder died, his cross was passed to the next guy up on the list. Official production on the 'second issues' began in 1834 and ended in 1837 to provide those entitled with an award.

Yes, but.....

The inheritance list only applied to the Iron Cross 2nd class. The 1830's run of 2nd classes were all made by Godet, I believe. I have never heard of a second run of 1st classes.
