    WW1 medal help

    Hi Guy's,
A friend sent me these pictures of some family medals. Can you help to ID them and sort out where they go on the ribbon bar.

    Cheers
    Irv

The first is a silver wound badge, then a Nazi long service cross for twenty five years, an unofficial veteran's cross, then an Iron Cross second class, a buttonhole mini which corresponds to the large bar which should have the iron cross first and the Nazi cross at the end. If you could post a picture of the reverse of the bar, it looks like he was a winner of the silver Baden bravery medal.

Thanks for that. Like I said these are a friends family medals so I have no more pictures at the moment but I will ask him to send more.
The would badge is black not silver in my picture.

      Regards
      Irv

        Hi,

        doesn't the cut-out woundbadge (1st) is a black grade?
and the third is not a veterans cross but from Baden; Cross for Voluntary War Aid (Kreuz für freiwillige Kriegshilfe), 1914-1916

        Best regards,
        Michel

The family's name would be of help regarding the missing Baden award - three come in mind, and lists exist of course.

Seems to be a nice group!

Thanks! Moser is a rather common name here. One of my neighbours is a Moser too.

In Roth's WW1 Baden rolls (which are almost, but not totally complete) I can find three Mosers with Baden bravery medal (nearly impossible to replace as name engraved!), one with Zähringer merit cross and none with Small Golden merit medal. First name or unit might help to be sure which it was....

If there is interrest, I can confirm if some more information would be found.

Pity the medal seems to be lost.

                I'm a bit confused
                What medal is missing???
Can you confirm which medal go's with which ribbon and ID the medals in the pictures. I think it's because I'm not up on WW1 German medals. Still not sure what the 1914-1916 medal is?

Sorry to sound like an idiot.

                Regards
                Irv

It seems, at least from the lapel bow, that there is a second bravery award from Baden mising. While the medal that is there is rather common, the second one that's missing is something very special.

The 1914/16 cross is a Baden Cross for Voluntary War Aid (Kreuz für freiwillige Kriegshilfe). It does not belong to the bar. It may be from the wearer's wife...

I can only see four ribbons on the lapel pin?

What's missing here, most likely, if the group is indeed to a Moser, is one like this:

I can see five, the Baden ribbon is apparently twice on the lapel bow.

I suppose that the Silver Karl Friedrich-Militär-Verdienstmedaille is probably more likely; even those were only awarded ~1,282 times in WWI, so needless to say, very rare.

I wasn't aware that there wasn't evidence of a single large Goldene Verdienstmedaille Friedrich II. 1908 being awarded on the combatant ribbon. Is there some sort of record that lists who got the small medal in gold?

Sure, it's in Roth's WW1 list. Even less awarded (ca. 400) than the bravery medals, and as said, not one Moser amung these.
