What's Weird about this 1870 KDM?

I picked this up on the estand, and thought the odd color of the KDM was the scan, but no, it's made out of either bronze or some copper alloy. Anyone ever seen one like this?

    Does it clean off?
Maybe it was once owned by a heavy smoker?

      Hello Vince:

This is an old period-purchased privately stuck piece. It is a combatant medal which was possible on the non-combatant ribbon, but much rarer. Don't clean it, don't do anything to it! It is a very nice old 100% original group!

      Congratulations!

The whole set looks like it was handled a lot, even finger oil etc. and rub can change the color over time.

It's definitely a bronze version of the steel non-combat KDM. I've never heard of such a thing

It's the non-combattant medal on non-combattant's ribbon. This is the rarest of the three variations. There was no combattant medal on a non-combattant ribbon.

It is a private purchased one. Possibly it used to be silvered? If not, they did just forget about it. I think stranger things happened.

                Hello Sascha:

You are 100% correct! My mistake! There was never the combatant medal on the non-combatant ribbon. It WAS possible to have a non-combatant medal on the combatant ribbon. Someone recently criticized you for being too young, but youth has its advantages as you can remember things better! I have too much work-related and family-related junk filling my limited capacity brain!

I have owned a privately-struck piece identical to this one. I believe that someone probably added it as a replacement (in error) in the past.

                Best regards

Possible that it could be bronze plated to prevent rusting? Have you tried a magnet on it?

That is not an altered steel one. It is struck from another die.
