I picked this up on the estand, and thought the odd color of the KDM was the scan, but no, it's made out of either bronze or some copper alloy. Anyone ever seen one like this?

This is an old period-purchased privately stuck piece. It is a combatant medal which was possible on the non-combatant ribbon, but much rarer. Don't clean it, don't do anything to it! It is a very nice old 100% original group!

The whole set looks like it was handled a lot, even finger oil etc. and rub can change the color over time.Comment

It's definitely a bronze version of the steel non-combat KDM. I've never heard of such a thing

It's the non-combattant medal on non-combattant's ribbon. This is the rarest of the three variations. There was no combattant medal on a non-combattant ribbon.
It is a private purchased one. Possibly it used to be silvered? If not, they did just forget about it. I think stranger things happened.Comment

I have owned a privately-struck piece identical to this one. I believe that someone probably added it as a replacement (in error) in the past.
