Hi guys i picked this up yesterday , it appears to have german trenchartwork on it, does that name or 42 mean anything to anybody ? thanks Dave

My pick is that it is a reference to the "42 Brummer" or "Big Bertha" as the allies called it. Official designation, "42-cm M-Gerat howitzer".
This type of howitzer was declared the "Bertha a Wunderwaffe" by the German press after smashing Belgian forts and became a popular myth/ icon in the years 1914 to 1916.
There are all sorts of "42-cm", "Brummer" or "Bertha" references and souvenir items from this period,

You also find the name "Lorettohöhe" written on the item. In WW1 there was a famous
battle dealing with this "Lorettohöhe":
