The above pictures, depict a complete series of the Austro-Hungarian "Kriegskreuz für Zivilverdienste", instituted in 1915 as a reward for civil merits in time of war.
Divided into 4 classes, the 1st, of larger size, is in gilt silver and white enamel; the 2nd class same as the higher class, but smaller; the 3rd class in silver and white enamel and the 4th class, in frosted gilt bronze, with polished details.
This decoration is of the purest "Jugendstil" design and, as visible on the reverse of the 1st and 2nd class crosses, there is the hallmark of the famous "Wiener Werkstätte".
