ek metal molding info question ( 1813 /1870)

I wonder how much is known about specific metal moulding techniques in the years 1813 1870 ........
and how much info still available
    lets say

,,how,, and off what material where the imprints off the sand mould being made . ...?

holes and gabs in the iron.?

chemical substances added to sand and iron .?

and errors wile moulding throe wrong use off materials and chemicals ?

    WY ?
,,,,,fore me it becomes Moore clear after collecting periods books ,,,
often general idea's about the core identification don't ad up to what I find in books off the period
but is it a common info that maybe still hiding in a thread I did not find ?

    or maybe a book ?

wonder how much info still available ?

    regards kay

I did sandcasting in metal shop back in the 70s. Its not really hard. A fine sand medium impregnated with an oil base, a frame box(two halves), a mold template, and a rammer to pack the medium.

so ,,,what did you learn about the iron compounds needed to have the best results ....?

what about the cooling time ?

        problems ?

I have a German book off 1859 that states it is extremely difficult .....
and has no problem admitting Germany's underdog position on that matter against the English metal industry off the time...

For non tempered stuff there isn't much to it. Tempurature during the pour was important. Cooling to the point of opening the mold was not that long- perhaps 15 minutes.

well ,,,,,,,,,,,found my period books about it . ( 1850)

amazing how much science and skills there was in 1850

amazing coal and wood ovens ,

schematics fore the different iron mixes .

scales fore cooling and shrinking calculations .

different types off iron based products ,different trades making models and moulding tools .

the quality schematics off the iron base material and the different properties .

the casting flaws named and explained .

sand types and properties needed fore iron casting

            and so much Moore

            Don ...

there craftsmanship has nothing to do with metal moulding off modern times.
and can absolutely not be compared with modern times.

            regards kay
