    Battered and Bruised

    Although I don't go out of my way to pick up 'basket-case' pieces, I found that this one had such a lot of character, that I had to get it. Originally the lower left sword hilt was broken off, the enamel is heavily damaged, and the lower cross arm is actually torqued out of alignmentI can only imagine how this piece wound up in such bad shape, but I still like it. I had my jeweler make the replacement sword.Maybe others could show off their pieces in not-quite-pristine condition. This is a silver-gilt, solid example marked W 938 on the lower cross arm.
