I have seen one or two of these come up for sale over the years but dont know much about them. I assume they were made by sweethearts or mothers honoring their loved ones service. This is the only one that I have seen for a machine gunner. A friend of mine found this in a thrift store recently and I acquired it from him. It was framed in the original frame which was a bit worse for wear. I thought about it long and hard and decided to protect it better (with acid free backing) and improve the frame. Final decision was made when I noted a few dead bugs behind the glass in the original framing. I kept the tan original mat intact as it would have disrupted things too much to remove it from the piece. I improved a bit of water staining on it by including a second mat in the final framing whcih covers the staining The vet is named in pencil on original backing which I saved. Can anyone tell me what these are called? I believe it is Ludendorff and Hindenburg depicted at the bottom? Thanks for looking

Thanks
Thanks Eric for sharing that-these are interesting-seem very personal for the vet. I love the colors and old English lettering. I appreciate all your comments. I almost passed on this as I have very little wall space anymore-but the price was right, and now re-framed I am pretty excited about it.
