    Thanks Guys,

the seller told me that he got the badge from the family a couple of years ago.
He said that the engraving is 100% old and he is asking 950 Euro for the badge.

What do you think about the price?

The badge worth 500-600€. If the engrave is original and traceble i would say the price is OK.

If the seller got the badge from the family he should have information about the owner. Ask him. Don't belive what story.

if Fritz Schlecht realy exist it could be found on documents.

        Hi Alex,

and this is the problem, no photos, no paperitems.......just the badge!

I will think about the deal...

        thanks again,

But he had contact to the family and could ask for further information like birth date, location, etc. If he tell the truth he could be able to give you this information.

Otherwise you pay 300-400€ more for a regular badge.

I like the looks of the badge, but the engraving does not look period, although it is very well executed by hand, and is of the cursive script type found on items from this period. I agree with Alex that you would need documentation from the family to justify the higher price.

I like the badge, the detail on the front is very good. The engraving certainly looks fresh but photos can do strange things, in hand it may look old.

The title of this thread asks for opinions, so I'll give my opinion.

While the badge might be good (I'm not 100% sure), I REALLY don't like the engraving.

no other details, photos, or other possessions of the owner from a family-obtained badge, can't find any historical record of him, and the newer looking engraving with at least one other subtle mistake I spotted in the "period" grammar and it all adds up to zero IMHO. I don't like the piece.

                (at any price)

I would like to see a close-up of the engraving. It looks to me like it was done with a machine. Look how the lines of the letters cross over each other. You can see the crossover which looks like one line on top of the other. Hand engraving does not look like that. Just my 2-cents. Gary

                    That mistake is what?

                      Thanks Guys,

maybe the engraving is not old, but the letters and the text are without mistakes!

                      anyway, back to the seller.....
