Combination of two threads???

If it helps and has support, could we perhpas combine both MG08 and 08/15 into one main thread 'German Ground MGs - WWI '. and then anything ground MG can be added. It would be quite useful to have it pinned too?

Quick comparison -British v German WWI

WWI British 250 rd .303 ammo belt - noting holed spacers. Imperial German 250 rd 7.92mm MG belt - noting top of spacer. As always even ammo belts are being 'faked' or mis-sold on large auctions.


There is one superb French collector who is the King of all ammo belts and if you really want he can offer the technical differences.

(Before a Vickers man tells me about the starter tab on the British belt, this is a very rare belt for we think WWI air or tank use. The starter tab is larger for the use of gloves).

So when looking at maxim belts, check starter tab and make sure it is genuine, (for example WWII Australian belts are almost identical to WWI British belts, both Vickers and people used to change starter tabs) then inspect type of spacers.

There is one of these guns and mount on top of the Legion in Madoc, Ontario, Canada. One can see it every time one goes through the town. There are also two of these guns and mounts on either side of the Cenotaph in Harold, Ontario, Canada. It's cool to see them used this way. They have been welded to de-activate them and then many coats of paint applied over the years since they were set up on the Cenotaph. The mounts have been welded to a large steel plate then bolted and welded to large bolts set in the concrete pad. The guns have been welded to the mg mounts as well
