    The one that got away

I know everyone has seen an item that they wanted and were willing to go the max on it only to find out it was sold or the auction was pulled etc... So if you've saved the pics let's see the ones that got away. Maybe you will find out that a fellow WAFer got them and then it won't seem so bad.

I'll start with this one, a fantastic medal bar to a brave Badner. It was on Ebay and the auction was ended early when the seller evidently got an offer he couldn't refuse.

1813 1st class. Part of a set broken up on ebay. I got the Ek2
but could not afford the the Ek1 and other family items.

Don, I think everybody was drooling over that Baden bar. It was already at 2000 euros when it was pulled. And Greg, how long ago was that EK1 for sale, as I never saw it.

Several months ago, I had my eye on this 1870 beauty that was being offerred by a well-known dealer, who shall remain nameless. I contacted the dealer to set-up a layaway plan for it and assumed he would hold the cross for me. But in less than 24 hours I saw that he had accepted another offer and sold it.

It still hurts when I look at these pictures.

              Best, Alex

                This one.

It was discussed here, with thumbs up...
I recognized it on a dealer site for 160 euros. Asked for better pictures. The evening I decided to sell my folding Weihrauch air gun and to press "Buy" it was sold.

                Best regards,
                Michel

Was too slow on this one (which went to a fellow collector on another forum) but always felt with the addition of the missing medal, it would scrub up quite nicely....

I wish I had saved the pictures, but avoided doing so out of a desire to keep from torturing myself further. I had a lead on a ribbon bar that belong to a friggin General, and made the mistake of making some discreet inquiries on the web to try to find out more about him. Some of the other bidders put two and two together, and I lost out.

I like to look at the glass half full, not half empty. I have many pieces in my collection that was someone else's "the one that got away"! Gary
