EK2 Mounted backwards

I just received this nice parade mounted EK2. What is different, although I am told not rare, is the fact that the EK2 is mounted backwards. I'm sure there are some theories about why this was done. Personally I think the individual was against the monarchy - perhaps a communist?

I would be interested in hearing other opinions on this.

Also, is it possible to determine the maker?

You see this quite often, especially on bars from between the wars. I believe this is because after the Wilhelm abdicated and the monarchy was out of favor it was a personal statement. After all, they followed Wilhelm into the war faithfully, doing thier duty, and in the end had to feel more than a little betrayed.

Hi Don,

It would seem odd that, if a supporter of Wilhelm, they would turn the face of the cross with his crown and his initial backwards. To me this looks like more of a protest against the emperor than support for him.

Besides the EKs you will also find most of the EK2 equivilents mounted that way too on bars from that era.
