Unknown Imperial Badge

Can anyone identify this for me? It may even be WW11 period since it was acquired in Germany at the end of the second world war by a British soldier.

It is monogram of Aleksandr II Romanov, tsar of Russian Imperium.
Few days ago I've seen one like that in silber.

It is difficult to tell what size this insignia is, but there was a German officer's regimental shoulder board cypher like this. It was worn by the Ulan Rgt.Nr.3.

Thanks for your input Chip. The badge measures 3.5cms x 4.5cms, so perhaps too big.
