    Original mint ek2?

    Hello,
I bought this beauty today at a faire. Because it looks so new , I do want to be sure that I didn't buy a replica.

Is this indeed an original medal?

    Thanks,
    Frank

      Hello Andy,
Thanks for your help. That's a shame. I'll sell it than again.

Would it mean that it is a replica, or is it produced for the military?

Was the 1914 model also produced in (or after) 1957?

      Thanks,
      Frank

        Hi Frank!

After WW2 there were still many WW1 (and also WW2) Vetarans who lost their original 1914 Iron Crosses, or still had them, but in such a bad condition, that they needed replacements.

1957 the "new" IC generation of denazified orders was invented. On this move, they also produced new orders for those WW1 veterans. Iron Crosses, Wound Badges and even Pour le Merites.

After 1957 they continued to product these medals- until today. That´s why 1957er Medals don´t attract much attention, because all of them are postwar and you can hardly tell if it´s out of the 1957er row or from the 2010 production. Sure, if you put some interest in these orders you can more or less easily spot if it is 1957 or a later production, but yours is not 1957, sorry.

I for me consider all 1945 Productions for replicas, even the 1957 ones, but those that are post 1957 are replicas of the replicas

        greetings
        Andy

Sure, that´s another topic. But that´s another plus of collecting imperial stuff- you can, in 99,9% of the cases, tell if it´s wartime, postwartime, 3rd Reich or Fake

Actually, if you bought from the Deschler Hoard.. you should know that difficulty. But it seems people rather care about the quality than the manufacturing date.

            greetings
            Andy
