I am in agreement with Saschaw here about the period of construction - my own feeling is that the KMSTs are wartime and that the hardware variations are relatively early "experimentations". I also like his point about the "K" in KMST - it makes a lot of sense.

Re the final price of this example, I think the seller listed the right cross at the right time and several bidders got into a bidding war. Nice to know there is still a market for high end Imperial EK1s!

well ...as in the 30'"s militarism, the uniform was becoming part off the public and street life again..

ek"s wood be there to ,,,
but in a world off new inventions, crazy futuristic views off the future off Germany
and new method's ,army reorganization and building off brand new units with unseen demands
these crosses are to me an attempt to go along with this new futuristic modernism.

and are also ( in a sense) war time in the end

I believe them to be war time, as the "K." stands for Königlich, which would be obsolete in 1919.

Are you sure? I'm sure they are all die-struck at K.M.ST. By what reason should a mint cast cores?

The reason I mentioned this was because: I think we had some discussion on GMIC some years back on another KMST that he bought. He must have an mesmerizing collection. Maybe someone know if he is active on one of the German forums?

There is a thread somewhere on GMIC where a cased Wurttemburg pinback cross (sorry, I forget it's title) linked the hardware to the maker.
