Ek 1 opinions please

Got this 800 Marked Ek1 awhile back on the forum and I am in the process of trading it to another member and he requested it be vetted 1st,so any comments are welcomed.Thanks Jay

In my opinion a very nice original wartime cross. Marked [800] below the catch?

Might as well come out and say it, I'm the "another member" that's looking at it.

here's my issues:

1. the right side of the W has some extensive damage or casting flaw. Worries me that something like that could have passed through inspections and would never have been worn.

2. The paint looks like it was added/touched up later.

It's possible. Jay should be able to say by holding it in-hand. Hard to tell from the photo.

As for the core, this is a stamped type, rather than a cast type. So any "flaw" there would more likely be damage after manufacture, in my opinion.

If it was done post-manufacture, then it's definitely repainted.

The only other way the W coulkd have that damage is if was a cast type, which it's not.

Yes, you're right. And so I do believe it has had a coat of paint. It seems well-done though, or old, as there doesn't appear to be paint on the frames, which is a common affliction of re-painted cores.

I live in Manhattan and I sometimes go to the show in Union NJ with a friend.

Must have been repainted after it got the damage. I imagine 1930's at the latest. Too bad though.

I'm in Long island. I usually go to the LI Gunshow put on by Long Island Antique Historical Arms Society. They do a show 4 times a year. I usually get a table just so I can have a place to sit down and hang out with the other local guys and talk militaria haha.

Sometimes really cool stuff walks in too. You should check the show out, it's close to NYC and next one is dec 11th-12th.

Hi,

in my opinion the core was rusted and that has been removed. The crown also looks to have some pitting. Maybe afterwards it was "touched up".
