Travelers guide-Northern Germany

Here is an interesting book my wife found at a garage sale.

It is a travel guide to northern Germany published in 1893.

This book is full of maps of Germany cites. Street maps, floor plans
of some of the big museums, layouts of some castles.

Also directions on the best ways to travel from town to town including
how many times to change trains, steam boats to use, hotels ect.

Quite a look at pre ww1 germany.

That is a cool item, not many of the sites listed in there would be in existence today. What a great find.

description.

A close up of the bottom of the page shows some of the description
of the palace bridge.

Note the designer of the bridge. Schinkel of iron cross fame.

Baedecker guides from that era are often worth quite a bit, the German ones anyway. That was a very good find Greg.

The Guides are still going strong now I think? During WW2 there was a myth that the Germans bombed British Cities that appeared in Baedecker guides as revenge for bombing Berlin.
