Which is a Godet Iron Crescent?

Hi guys,

I need some help with some preliminary questions regarding the Iron Crescent.

These two types are both listed as Godet manufacture. Clearly they are different. Did Godet have two types? If not, do we know which of these two is the real Godet manufacture?

Well, I think the reason might be:

- The first one has the enamel pattern often associated with Godet produced pieces, however the reverse hardware is associated on originals but not to Godet as far as I know.

- The second piece has enamel patterns that appear different IMO from what I have seen on Godet examples, but the reverse is similar to actual marked Godet produced pieces.

Keep in mind, there are A LOT of variations of these Turkish War Medals. In the case of Godet, I have seen both marked and unmarked pieces. The marked ones have GODET on the pin. There are also examples that have this very similar and common type hardware that are not considered Godet.

I'll throw up a couple of PIC's of cased examples I seen for sale at one point in time and you can compare.

IMO, both of these pieces you show look great and original to me. You might wait for others, like Tim Tezer to comment here or even post it at GMIC in the Turkish section and I know you will get answers.

What seems clear to me is that all the examples shown by Tim and Greg are good Godet pieces, and that neither of the types I've shown match in all particulars.

Don, I see what you mean: the top one has little rivets on the reverse that are in the same basic place as the Godets shown later. But the second one has that form-fitted hinge like the real Godets.

I don't know. I guess the safest way to make sure I'm looking at a Godet, is to wait for one marked properly for Godet. Neither of these that I showed is actually for sale, and I'm not in a position to buy one at the moment anyway, so I will hold out until I find one like the others.

If you haven't been over to the Turkish section at GMIC, I would highly recommend it, as there are a lot of examples posted to ponder over.

I think my personal favorite, if I can ever find one that is affordable, is the J.H. Werner piece. I love this one!
