    Interesting Medal

I got this interesting regimental commemorative medal in a recent trade. It's rather nicely done, struck in silver with outstanding detail. Obviously it commemorates the 11th Kurhess Jaeger Battalion. However, I have a couple of questions I am hoping someone can answer.

First can anyone identify the memorial and its location that is on the reverse of the medal? It appears to commemorate the Franco-Prussian war as the names "Woerth" "Sedan" and "Paris" appear on the column. (these might be too small to make out from the photo below)

Also, the medal is fitted for wear as a one place medal bar. I would have assumed that recipients would not have been allowed to wear this medal since it is "unofficial"...or am I incorrect in some regard?

    Cheers all,

    Adam

      Hello,

The monument would normally have stood in thetown where JB 11 had its barracks, it's a memorial in honour of the fallen of the unit. On it one sometimes finds the names of the fallen or the battle honours.

      Regards,
      Jan
