    what does "800" signify on the pin of a EK1 (WW1 vintage) is this a common maker? Thanks
    (its a local auction piece so no photo is available)

      Not a maker mark. Like Giel says it's an indication of silver content, usually in the frame. It's a value out of 1000, so an 800 mark is the equivelent of 80% silver, with the rest of the frame being some other material. The 800 mark is the most common and is found on both the EK1 and EK2, the later being stamped on the ring. Other marks seen are 900, 925 935, 950, although there are others. Not an uncommon thing to see on an Imperial EK, although conventional wisome says the silver marked versions are private purchase pieces in most cases.
