Sorry George...you were rather 'ignored' earlier re this point...

I had always noticed this 'feature' on your mark, but have not seen the same on any 'I' or 'J' marks in my files ....like Bill though, occaisionally on third reich stuff etc..

The closest is this curious effect on Claudio Ortelli's Prinzen J mark (I'm sure he wont mind) where you can clearly see someone has had at least two go's at it...

Why - what's your angle, and should I be chasing after the postal van???

Ignored again -- but I got over it!

I don't know if you should be chasing the van -- I was just posting my mark as another variation of Wagner markings.

      Curious, isn't it?

Just as a point of interest to those who were involved in this discussion(and I'm not advocating we prolong it any further), here, offered by a known dealer, is a stepped prinzen 1870 EK1, maker marked 'A.Gross 800' which has VERY similar core detail (different pin) to the 'Lavishly stamped' I.Wagner on pg 117 of the Iron Cross...

Just because we were discussing multiple cores and maker marks, that's all....

Even with private purchase, it truly was a free for all back then.......no?...
