      Thank you very much, Trevor!

Do you know the maker of the left one?

        Hi Ludwig,

I'm sorry, I thought this was a quiz question! I don't know for sure that Bernhard Knauer made the one on the right, but it was my guess because Knauer is not a known maker of Third Reich (post 1933) pinback awards that I know of, and yet the pin system on the example shown left more closely resembles later (TR) designs. I think also that Knauer is a maker of award-type Oldenburg Crosses, and I have seen the pin system on the right on pieces identified as award-type pieces (even with the brace below the catch).

But I emphasize this is a guess of mine. I think others, perhsps Mike or Don, may know better.
        Best regards,
        Streptile

Oh, I see. No, it´s not a quiz. I just want to know. This is not my area, but I intend to get some WW1 awards. Thanks anyway.

I used to have a boxed one. The box was marked for Bernhard Knauer. I'll have to check the pics when I get home tonight or tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Don. My problem is, that a dealer has both of them for sale. Both boxed, but both boxes are marked Benhard Knauer!...

The one I had was from the recipiant so I assume it was in the original box. Even had a lock of his hair in it.
Ha!! Searched using the word "hair" and hair you go: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=hair

I'd say the one on the right.

                    Phew!

In my opinion -- and this is no guess but a judgment based on real experience -- the piece on the left was made after 1933, and almost certainly after 1939. B.H. Mayer and Wilhelm Deumer come to mind as possible makers, but that is a guess.

                    Well, good luck.
                    Best regards,

Yes, the pin makes me think of more modern (than WW1) cross. Thanks.
