Could you be awarded a Hanseatic Cross if you served in the army of a different state, and what would be the order you would wear it in on your ribbon bar?

Yes - the award of the Hanseatic crosses to members of other contingents happened with a degree of regularity.
Generally the order or wear that I've seen in photos for awards was Prussian first unless Bavarian or Saxon followed by other awards either in order of receipt (think this was by regulation) or by precedence of the state awarding it - putting Hanseatic Crosses last. Hoping another member will be able to confirm this statement for you.

Thanks. The bar is an obvious fake, but it made me wonder what the proper order would be (it put the Hambrug Hanseatic Cross before the Württemberg Friederich Orden).
Also, I remember reading somewhere that the Hanseatic Cross was the only medal available to citizens of the Free Cities, and that they must reject any other awards. Can someone verify this as well?

Is a picture of the bar available?

Would love to see
Hi Saschaw
In my limited experience (reading, discussions with more the knowledgeable – hence almost everybody & photographs) I have seen awards from other German states arranged in numerous ways –
The wearers sense of value or prestige
The "rank" of the individual states
The order of award date timing (Reihenfolge Ihrer Verleihung)
The famous Manfred von Richthofen funerary medal bar does not seem to match any of the above precisely. The famous Kaiser Wilhelm Medal Bar seems to follow the state rank rule.
Post war regulations prescribe order of kingdom rank then Baden for the highest awards of each then order of award date timing for others.
I’ve never seen or heard of alphabetical order before and would love to seen an example – can you provide?

What I actually intended to say: Many wore like they wanted to, and there is no real thumb rule what the order on a bar should be like.

Excellent point. I agree completely. Thanks for your reply.
