What type of button is this? What was it used on? Shiny deep copper color.

It looks like an NCO collar button for and Uhlan.

        Thanks!

I always wondered what it was for. I'm not much of a uniforms guy, but I found it in a sewing box at a garage sale and have always appreciated the clarity of the eagle.

Kinda like the one below? On Dunkelblau Waffenrock, the gilt or silver buttons (with a few exceptions) matched the color of the metal fittings on the Pickelhaube. So these rank buttons are found in silver or gilt, which can also be Tombak (copper) color. They are found with the state cypher on them, so Preußen, Württemberg, Bayern etc are all found.

24 mm collar buttons designate the rank of Gefreiter.
30 mm collar buttons indicate a rank of Sergeant and up.

Here is my Husar Regt Nr. 11 Attila, but these buttons are found on Waffenrock from all arms of the Army. Cavalry, Infantry, Artillery, Underground Balloon Battalions, you name it.

            Thanks, Tony!

            This one looks like 30mm.
Did you notice me waving 'hello' to you?
