I agree Greg. That is a terrible waste of a good cross.

Looks like somebody put a new backplate on and fixed the loops. From the heat marks and not matching, missing patina, I would say it's not older than 2 month.

See if you can get the seller to agree that this for mounting on a Cuirass.

That's a real pityIt looks like the cross is now asymmetrical, or maybe it's just the photo. I have a period converted cross similar to this, but with only two loops, so this sort of thing was done, just not like this one

Well at least it's correctly valued in Post#2 !!!
                Regards

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

IMO the real pity is that it was a GREAT cross. I love the detail of that
                  particular style crown.

                  Does anyone recognise the maker?

It almost looks like it was done to sew it to a jacket etc. Maybe Biker related etc.

There were supposed original 1813s and 1870s like this (although extremely rare) and people have been modifiying crosses like this to try to cash in on the unsuspecting collectors.

                        Hi Greg,

It's a typical AWS core. I think that frame may also have been an AWS frame, as I've seen it more often than not with this core. Perhaps it was the one that preceded the "Wideframe"?

Just to be typically confusing, that core was also used by Juncker on L/12 marked EK1s during WWII, although the details are usualy very poor.
                        Best regards,

Thanks, I did not know that. I agree that with the heat damage it looks very recent.

                            Thanks Trevor,
I was thinking AWS as well but the AWS has a beaded sweatband and
"Franky" doesn't. But maybe that's just the product of camera angle
                            or lighting.
