This is a typical item that was handed out in exchange for gold to support the ongoing war effort. The poem on the front says that "To the good old fatherland / I gave in times of need, / and to proof my loyalty / gold for this iron."
The initials OHG are interesting: I am not 100% certain, but they could stand for "Offizierheimgesellschaft", basically a fundraiser to support the officers' casino's and accomodation.
