    Hmm.. Yet another 1870 ek2.
The attachment for the small ring isn't something that i have seen on a 1870ek2 before(to my recollection). And the details are different from my piece. If it is infact genuine, i seriously doupt that it's a period piece, since it's condition is too good. Just my two cents.

Does not look like something made pre-1918 to me. The frame looks like a 3rd Reich one though, so could be a 1930s replacement piece.

--Let's be careful guys, the fact is that a good portion of period 1870 EK2's had that ring 'nub'.
--This one's frame does look stocky, what are the dimensions?

--It's too small to be 3rd Reich, but something about the frame in relation to the core looks off kilter. The lines aren't as graceful as the usual suspects. I was thinking that this had the look of a prinzen, but that wasn't really a consideration.
--Can we get better photos of the Crown and Dates on both sides.
--My eyes, my eyes, is that a 3rd Reich frame or not? Need another set of eyes here. You around, Tim....Marshall?

                      Hmmmmm........

The frame beading looks to be frosted as in a TR era EK. The core looks to have 1914 era style reverse crown and rougher core texture. On a further look the frame shape or porportions at a quick glance also look to be TR era.

I have no idea. It's a new one on me.

Here's a ring "nub" on a good one.

                            I wouldn't buy it.

Since i know that you have been doing this for a much longer time then i have, i have no pronlem accepting that, Bill. But.. The reason i said that is clear; One of the two EK books that i have is The Iron Time. Of the total of 15 1870eks that are pictured there, only one has that 'nub'. Lack of intelligence is obviously hindering my development.
