Can you post a straight on shot of the back?

It appears to be a genuine cross. Imo it's been thoroughly cleaned though and from the reverse pic provided I would suggest the entire hardware system has been replaced.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

I agree with Mike, a good cross post 1918 with replaced hardware, normally marked 800.

I've seen several of these with the first type reverse hardware on ebay.de over the last several months and that scares me.

            Chris,

The cross you post has the nice AWS "Wideframe" frame and is, I believe, a Godet. I think this because the hardware is also used by Godet, and because the '800' stamp (as far as I can see) is one seen on Godets as well -- both EK1 Reduktions and full sized. Also, surprisingly, Godet used that core (see HERE). I am sort of looking for a cross identical to yours for my collection.
            Best regards,

That's scary Trevor, more swapping going on than in the 70s

The cores do match for sure, What are your thoughts?

These 800 types as they're loosely called, come in about 5 variations that I've seen, this one, incused stamp, 800 on the pin, the backplate & above the hinge and an incused 800 SB.

This hobby just keeps getting better by the day, never mind the cost

              Chris

                Hi All,

I tend to agree with Don here (I remember being surprised to see this repair at ebay a few times, and discarding the auction for myself). Is this kind of repair documented or seen before or just something which currently pops up? With "documented" I mean the repairs with a nice soldered plate (real jeweler repair work), instead of a big (very round) drop of solder like this one.

Example of a nice soldered plate is seen in post #7 here:

                Best regards,
                Michel

                P.S.

Cross itself looks good, that's what scares me...
