Nice, only 5,037 of those KO medals were awarded. Nice bar!

Really? I have one of those teeny tiny medals. With that sort of rarity they should be worth big money, right?
Is the correct ribbon a generic cornflower blue?
      I <3 KO.
      Thanks,
      Eric Gaumann

        @ Eric,

The ribbon for these is the same as the Crown Order without swords....a light blue colour as can be seen on the bar above. Feel free to post your medal!

        @ MauserKar98k

Thank you for the comment and stats.

As usual, a great spange, Pierce. Bars with the KOM are pretty scarce. I only have one, to a deck officer.

If it is the 1918 style, in other words, doesn't have the voided spaces in the crown, yes, it is very rare. Like only 38 awarded rare.

You're welcome Luftkreig, glad to help. If your medal is from before September 1916, it should be made out of gilt bronze with the crown welded to the rest of the medal. If it is made out of one piece of gilt zinc, then it dates from between September 1916 to 1918.

Info comes from "The last model of the Crown-Order-Medal" at:

Yes i did a bit of searching last night after i posted and read these facts on that site, good link to post. The version on this medal bar is pre-1916 in my opinion, (gilt bronze medal).

Would this bar have belonged to some type of Official Administrator?

                Thank you
                Pierce

                  Nice and interessting bar!

Just to add an extra info: The Crown Order Medal was not a lower grade of the Corwn order! It was not part of the official Prussia award system but given out by the König, on his own cost. The same is for Red Eagle Order Medal and the Prussian Kriegerverdienstmedaille.

All these three are somewhat special...

That's very interesting information. I wonder why they did that?

How the same soldier could have the veteran's medals of Austria, Hungary and Germany?

These medals from Austria , hungary and Bulgaria too were some kind of "give aways".... you just had to ask (and in some case pay) for them and show with your military papers that you are legitimated to get one.... no order , no award - just some kind of "rememberance medal"

I don't wonder anymore. I just accept it is like this. I don't ask any more why-questions regarding Prussian decoration... it seems they just did what they felt to do.

Just curious, did you receive my e-mail with the 1914 cross?

Thank you all for posting and to Saschaw who has added some more information on this medal.

I still wonder, what kind of person wore this medal bar and why he got the Crown Order Medal.

                            Kind regards
