Engraved crosses are cool & dangerous BUT, there is always a but.
Lets not forget that Jewelers/ Engravers did make mistakes, just like they have always done. They are told or given in writing by someone, what to put on an item. Depending on the knowledge/literacy level of the persons involved, it might contain errors.
Back then, not everyone had the privilege of a formal education, many merely put an X for a signature, for example.
A wife who would have a cross engraved for a husband might miss a period here or there, they may not get the abbreviation correct etc
I've had two experiences, one with a trophy that had two names spelled incorrectly, another where the engraver misspelled "Aniversery"
