    Medals Bar question

    Hi,

This combination of medals leaves me to curious:

The imperial long service medal (I believe of 5 years of service) with these TR medals represent that this veteran was not in the WW1.

Please, as this can have happened?

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,

    Ricardo.

I´m green in Austrian medals. It´s a Austrian Republic medal (pre TR)?

          Best regards,

          Ricardo.

            Hi Ricardo,

Based on the ribbon pattern, yes. I would say WW1 era and for NCO's and other ranks.

Yes, I was not 100% on it as I only had this PIC for reference:

                      Hello Ricardo,

First, I think that ribbon actually belongs to the 1912-13 Balkans War Mobilization Cross and not any long service award.

I got thinking what Don said on the medal bar Austrian award and think he is correct that it was post WW1 and pre-WW2. However, I think that ribbon should have narrower black bands like the one pictured below. Really hard to say, it might be okay, just a different maker and the stripes appear a bit larger. I'm still learning these early Austrian awards and would like to find some really good references to go off of.

This award is called "Militärdienstzeichen für zeitverpflichtete Soldaten II. Klasse" (for 5 years, the first class has a "12" on it). It was a long service award for soldiers of Austrian Bundesheer of the first republic / Bundesstaat (from 1919 - 1938) and was allowed to be worn also after the 13. März 1938.

The ribbon is the right one, although the black stripe should be wider.

                          Kind regards,

                          Peter

very cool and very rare. There weren't many career NCOs in the Bundesheer that were kept on who had the chutzpah to retain their old "ostmark" awards, although the regs allowed ONE Austrian award to be worn in the LS duos.
There is a photo on eBay right now of this "transitional" wear and it is the first I have seen in years.
