                      This is an amazing grouping, the Kampfwagen-Erinnerungsabzeichen in one of my favourite Badges!! Seeing a complete group with documents & pictures is just great! Ißm looking forward to the information about his unit and some information about the bearer himself would be great, too!

                        As promised:
                        The following is a summary of the info in The German A7V Tank and the Captured British Mark IV Tanks of World War 1 dated 1990 by Maxwell Hundleby & Rainer Strasheim, published by Haynes Publishing Group. ISBN 0-85492-788-X.
                        <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
                        ATD 11 was formed on 3 March 1918. The Commander was a Capt. Koch. It was composed of captured British Mark IV tanks. As with the A7Vs each tank was individually named (tank commander if known) as follows: Bremen (2Lt Schuenemann), Kaethe (possibly 2Lt Krug (KIA)), Hedda (2Lt Romkopf), the last two not known at this time. Their first action was at Juvincourt-et-Damaine on 27 May 1918. ATD 11 was attached to the 66th & 72nd RIRs, 7th RID of the LXV Corps. There mission was to attack from Guignicourt to Berry-au-Bac. Of the 4 ATDs assigned to this attack only ATD 11 came close to fulfilling its mission. The terrain was not suitable for armored attack. By the end of the attack only one tank was serviceable, Hedda.
                        On 1 Jun, Hedda joined in an attack with ATDs 1, 2, 3, and what remained of ATDs 12-14 in the Fort de la Pompelle area. Hedda broke thru the French front line allowing the German infantry (238th ID) to capture them and proceed on to their next objectives, a series of strong points. After the French 2d trench line and the fort fell Hedda was disabled by a hit to the right track. 2Lt Romkopf had the guns dismounted and they abandoned the tank which was then captured by the French during a counter attack.
                        <o></o>
                        ATD 11 was re-equipped in July 1918.They participated in a limited attack that achieved nothing but lost two tanks. After this they were used for demonstrations to familiarize German infantry to tanks, and in purely defensive actions. After the Armistice on 11 November the ATDs were dissolved and most of the tankers headed home as fast as they could go.
