Agreed - Crown and W look like a match with Erics - even the beading around swaz seems the same....

Any chance of a close up of your obverse date, so we can see if the numerals are 'rounded'....if they match Eric's, to my mind anyway, that would not only identify a potential maker (KO) for Erics cross, but also corroborate what most opinions here seem to reflect.....that it is a later issue piece, but probably not FAKE

I'm still not sure how much relevance to attach to the fact that the Crown and W at least seem to match that of Detlevs 'copy'...and the fact that his is an EK1, not an EK2....maybe someone more informed can chip in..

    regards..

The "W" is different on the "KO" cross. Lets hope they don't change fake 1870 iron cores with 1914 EKs...

Even with my lack of experience, I have been privately discussing with my friends, that what Biro just said goes to the heart of this issue. The real discussion here, is not that these could be fake EK2, but rather, how to tell when an 1870 EK2 was made. 1870, 1895, 1914..........when? Because an 1870 EK2 was made in 1914 does not make it a replica, but it certainly affects the value. Right? Tony

100% agreed Tony........and to put things even MORE into perspective....Whats an L/12 marked 1914 EK1 worth compared to its unmarked period equivalent!!

I have the Detlev photo also in my files, this IS it. Good spot Frank. Those pearls are just enough to spot one of these.

The quality of the oak leaves is amazing. Just amazing. What a great fake.

And the frame is perfectly closed with old patina, so I don´t think that someone had changed the core.

                Regards

Here it is Brian! As far as I know, the marking is a little bit different marking as post 1914 KO´s

(Groan) So when some slimy faker decide to make something, he will take a cast from an original as the goal is to fool people. When the copies hit the market, every original is now also magically transformed into a copy?

--The relevance is that it is entirely possible that Detlev's 'copy' is not a copy at all, but to some people that is unthinkable.

Only because it was a match for the Detlev Fake of the Week...

                                EKII not I.

My experience with the man is he only put it out there as a fake because he knows they're being offered to dealers in secret little deals. I think it's an exposure, be glad.
