Here is a sketch I did at work today of this setup, and how it would look framed, with a central battle map, a CDV of a soldier from each side, and the decorations. This is just a preliminary sketch -- I'm not sure how it will end up.

No, it's not. It's just a campaign medal. But one with the bar for the action you're focusing on (Sedan? (can't see pictures while typing reply)) might add. I found that the French issued a campaign medal for the vets of the F/P War but much later (1921?)
I know little about Prussian medal hierarchy and even less about the French. But I'd opine that the MM would be close to the EK2.
What about the: Militär-Ehrenzeichen -Verdienstkreuz or Krieger-Verdienstmedaille? (just leafing through Nimmergut...)
      PS. love the sketch!
      Thanks,

The first one was not awarded for 1870/71 but e. g. for 1866 and 1864, the latter was hardly ever given to Prussians (mostly to foreigners).

Great idea for a displayIt would look really cool with a Prussian KDM with a large number of battle clasps.

            Thanks, guys.

I think I have decided on this:

            France

            MM
            L'dHC

            Prussia
            EK2
            EK1

It's the simplest, and avoids any problems with trying to find a suitable Prussian equivalent to the Ld'HO -- which could be a KO, an RAO, an HOH, etc.
            Best regards,

Thank you, Thorsten. I'll update this thread, but it'll take some time.

Thanks for all the nice replies, guys. This project is ongoing, if slow. I still needed a Medaille Militaire to add to the French side... until today.

Totally unbeknownst to me, my lovely girlfriend put this absolute gem under the tree for Christmas this year. It's a cased Medaille Militaire, with the original wearing-pin (this may have a real name in French collecting circles, but I don't know it) and the original, and very cool, case with the flip-open insert. The case reminds me of those the Prussians used for the Kronenorden.

This was a great Christmas present -- needed, original, in great condition, and cased. I am just extremely happy with it, and I hope you all enjoy the photos. I'll add some better detail photos later.

                      Interesting idea!

                      Here you can check which type medaille militaire you have;

Hey Trevor, let me know if your girlfriend gives you the bootI never get anything like that for Christmas, although I did get a bottle of single malt this year. Gary, are you selling any of your ribbon, or is that your secret stash?

That future-display looks mighty impressive, can't wait to see the progress. This little thing might've made a nice accent piece: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...Ad33HcVo4%253D (Anyone find anything like that out there?)

but hey, even I missed out on it. We've got a blizzard going on here in MA, and I guess making sure the snowblower had gas in it was just a little bit more important.... but that's obviously debatable.

Thanks guys. Too bad I missed that banner. I just don't check eBay enough.

Michel -- a very interesting resource! I was hoping to find something like that for such a long time -- I posted threads on GMIC, I joined French forums, I pestered members for information repeatedly but got insufficient answers. But I never found that site before. I had basically given up on teaching myself about the L d'H and the MM. I really appreciate the link.
