    Engraved WWI Artillery Sword

    Hello Gents,

Here is something that is out of my area. I picked this sword up mixed with a large lot of militaria, and I am hoping that someone can tell me a bit about it and possibly put a price tag on it for me.
    Thanks.

P.S. The blade is heavily engraved and on the backbone of the blade is engraved "H. KARGUTH NAUMBURG A/S

Also, the blade is engraved "2. THURING. FELD-ARTIL.-RGT. NO 55."

Beneath the grip is engraved "A. Wolf"

On one side of the blade is a scene of mounted field artillery and on the other is crossed cannons, the above RGT number, anda mounted officer.

    Here are some pics.

I really need to know what I have got here, so I'm moving this back to the top in the hopes that someone who knows will see it.
          Thanks

              Wie gehts:

With my limited knowledge of swords, you have a private purchase other ranks "dove head" pattern saber, post 1910 when the AKO regulations eliminated the second lower hanger band and ring. Both field and foot artillery utilized this pattern. Here is a picture of a field artilleryman early in the war wearing your pattern sword

              Regards

Ditto. Please look at this thread, you will find scans I posted of the sword patterns for future ref. Tony

                    Thank You Very Much

As this sword does not fit into my collection very well, I am looking to get rid of it, I only purchased it because I got such a good price on the overall lot of militaria. What would be a fair asking price for something like this?

Unfortunately, imo this is a fairly common blade, even with the engraving. I would price the sword between $150 and $200, based on condition. If the sword had been an issue piece with matched regimental markings, the value would significantly more. You may want to check e-bay to get a better feel. Hopes that helps...

                        Thank you again

Again, I appreciate your information. Of course, I was hoping it was worth more, but don't we always have those thoughts when we get something cheap! . What the heck, it looks cool on the wall, so I may just keep it.
                        Thanks again.
