    EK2 1914 with box

    Hi!

This is a EK2 1914 that i recently bought on the internet. What do you guys think about it? It is maker marked, but I have not been able to magnify it yet, so I don't know who produced it. It came with a box, but as far as I know the EK2 was not awarded with a box, but it was possible for the recipent to purchase a box to keep the award in.

Hard to say what that box is for. It surely differs from the norm that one finds EK2s in. The cross looks ok but you should post straight on front and back pics in regular light.

I'd say the box is a period jeweler's item, possibly for a pocket watch, but definitely not for an EK2.

You are probably right VtwinVince. I have never seen a EK2 box like this one, but the award fits nicely into it though

this isn`t a box for an iron cross - its for a watch or possibly for some kind of jewellery.

Can anyone identify the maker of the cross?

You are probably right, but I will keep the EK2 in the case anyway, as I think it fits nicely into the case. Maybe the recipent of this cross has used this box to store it in since it was awarded, who knows.

Dont know if the EK2 and case started life together, but i had an identical set!!
EK2 had no MM, but was marked 800.
The case was of the period i thought, had a wooden "cradle" under the lining to hold the EK in place!! Case was Halbetui style, with a paper hinge!

I've still got the case, as the EK buyer did'nt want it!!!!!!medals%20204.jpg

Thanks for those photos Knockoffnigel! My box is identical to yours and has the same wooden "cradle" thing, but a small piece of this has been broken off. Very interessting to see that there are more EK2 out there with the same box.
