Help with id on water pitcher

Hey Guys

I just picked this up out of the wood work, and it's a very interesting piece. looks to be presented to a LT. I googled his name, and I guess this guy wrote a book at some point in his life. I was wondering if any of you could help with a translation or if there was some more background info on this guy. I think his family crest is on top of the pitcher. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I make that out to read:

Karl Baron of Müffling, otherwise referred to as White.

Lieutenant in the mounted military police of the royal forestry assessor.

Sorry, but it was not the owner of your pitcher who was so famous. This was a Prussian General and military writer who died 1851.

But both should be related.

Hi,
a little correction to the translation:
Lieutenant in the Mounted Military Police Corps- Royal Forestry Assesor.
This means he hold rank of Lieutenant in this special Military unit ( Reitendes Feldjägercorps), but in civil life he was a Royal Forestry Assessor ( an offical´s rank).
