    little guess

    Hello,

My gues is the Bavarian bravery medal ( i do not know if it is a gold or silver award ) => he probably received it as a non commisioned officer ( = before reaching rank of Leutnant ) + .

Nice about this picture is the fact that he is wearing the bavarian awards first before the Prussian ones + the fact that we can see a Bavarian war merit cross instead of a Bavarian war merit order +> so this is a good recon point that he did climb in rank , after he received the Leutnant's rank he received the PLM + the Houseorder of Hohenzollern

Warm, but NOT right. The bavarian bravery medal is rare but not the rarest on his bar.

It is the golden military merit medal. He also got the silverone, but had to return it as he received the golden one.
The Medals are in bavarian order, first the own ones, than the prussians. I assume, Max Müller was the highest decorated NCO in bavaria, made it later to Lt, got the PLM and the Bavarian Max Joseph.

      Best greetings

            Pilot badge?

            Spiess,

Maybe is the Bayrisches Flügzeugführerabz.? Is it some sort of special variation of the badge?

            Ciao,

            Claudio

              Hi Claudio,

              also not right.

another tip: It is a prussian award, only 17 times given to NCO´s

              Best greetings

                Hi,

                some more information:

                Max Müller NCO- decorations were
                - the iron cross 1st and 2nd class
                - Bavarian Military Merit Medal in Silver
                - Württemberg Military Merit Medal in Gold
                - Bavarian Military Merit Medal in Gold
                - and our big prussian miracle
                after promotion to Leutnant
                - Prussian Pour le Merite
                postumous
                - Bavarian Militär-Max-Joseph-Orden, what makes him to Max Ritter von Müller

With 36 air victories he was the 16th ranking ace.

So what is the rarest prussian award?

                Best greetings

                Daniel

                  Daniel,

Is it not maybe the PLM at his throat? I thought that it was an award just for officers, but very likely was promoted to Leutnant postmumly and at the same time awarded with the PLM.

                  Ciao,

                  Claudio

                    Hi Claudio,

The big miracle is not the PLM.

He was promoted Leutnant 26.August 1917, got the PLM at 03.September 1917, died at 09.January 1918, got the Max Joseph postumous.

The big Miracle: please have one more look at the Hohenzollern at his bar. Are You sure it is the "simple" Knights cross or something else?????

                    Best regards

                    Daniel

                      mayby ?

                      Hello,

I believe i have found it , it is the Prussian Hohenzollern award +> this is not the knights version as most commonly encountered ( on Officers bars ), these pieces do not have the white enamel in the ross arms , i can not recal the correct name => i have to search for the real name , it is the sword version and i think i have read about thisrare award in the BDOS magazine a few years ago.

I wil return with the correct answer ( but probably not today +> rather tomorrow )

                            Ahh yes.

The Kreuz der Inhaber des Hausordens von Hohenzollern mit Schwertern NEVER came to the market. Nimmergut listed it since a lot of years in his OEK catalogue with funny prices around 750 DM. As I prepared my article I asked a lot of Prussian experts, but nobody has a piece or knew about one. Only 17 were awarded (I forgot one in my article) and it counted under the "highest war awards", which owners got a honorary pension.
My ribbon bar started my interest in that decorations. As I got it I didnt know about this stuff. Only 5 men got the Inhaber mit Schwertern and the Militärverdienstkreuz (ribbon nr.3)

                            Best regards

                            Daniel

                              thanks

                              Hello Daniel ,

I have reread the articles concerning this award in the O u E , nice research you have done there, any more news on the so called " Jewisch " award of this ? .

You mention in the article that other ranks had to salute, etc ... when a recipient of this high award came along => how did they actual know that a certain person was a recipient ? , i suppose by looking at the ribbon bar that a person does not become very much wiser, etc ....

                              Thanks for the shared info,
