    J. Godet & Sohn AG packet - opinions please

I just picked this one up on eBay. If it's the real deal I guess I should consider myself lucky. I understand it measures 13 X 8.5cm. I'm really hoping it's authentic because I just recently purchased my first Godet 1914 EK2, and I think it would display very well with this packet. The pictures are from the auction. As ever, your opinions would be most welcome.

    Best, Alex

I like it but I don't know if it was for an EK.

Very nice but could be for any award.

Greatt packet, but it may not be for an EK. I can't read German, but it looks like the word "miniature" is on the packet. Could be for a mini?

            " Orden aller La'nder " ... probably means : Of all ( German ) States " ... or ....of all countries ?

Thanks for your input. I also believe that "Orders from all Lands..." is an advertisement promoting their production of a wide variety of awards, including EKs. So imo this packet 'could have been' used for the private purchase of a 1914 EK2, as well as any other decoration produced by the company during that period.

Here's the German language title and description from the eBay auction.

Tüte für Orden EK2 usw. Hersteller Godet Berlin

originale Ordenstüte des begehrten Herstellers Godet, Berlin. Ca. 13 x 8,5 cm. Wie auf den Bildern. Eindeutig und garantiert original. So, aus privatem Haushalt und nie in Sammlerhand gewesen.

Roughly translated, the title reads "Packet for Orders (such as) EK2s (usw) and so on..." So the seller was being upfront about this from the get go.

Any further observations would be welcome. Thanks.

                Best,

                Alex

Interesting that we have the addition of A.G.
So when changed Godet from a private producer to a sharehold company ? A.G. means "Aktiengesellschaft" . I am afraid this package is from the 1920s.

                  Good Luck for your homework.

Interesting. Thanks for the observation. So do you think the packet may have been used for postwar replacement awards for WW1 veterans?

Here's a bit of what I found on the company's history so far:

The Godet family ran the business as J. Godet & Söhne from approximately 1864 to sometime after 1924, when the name changed to Eugen Godet & Co.

                    Best,

                    Alex

I think this package was used around 1930 for any goods sold by J.Godet & Sohn A.G.
The key can be found in the Berlin adress-books online. Until 1925 there was only one company, J.Godet & Sohn Charlottenstrasse 55. Then the company was sold to Wilm and renamed in "Gebrueder Godet & Co., Charlottenstraße 55".
A new company was founded paralell "J. Godet & Sohn Aktiengesellschaft, Unter den Linden 12".
Your package matches this second, new founded A.G. and you see the underlined " nur Unter den Linden 12" to provide any trouble with Gebrueder Godet & Co.
Below extract of Berliner Adressbuch 1934.

                      Regards

Thanks for the research work, Markus. So based on what you've reported my packet could have been produced anytime between 1925 and 1934. Even if this is correct I still believe it's a rare find and that it 'could' have been used to contain an EK2 replacement for a WWI vet. Thanks again for your help and interest.

                        Best,

                        Alex

The packet finally arrived today. It's made of extremely thin and delicate paper. So as a precaution it's going into a clear acid-free plastic sleeve for storage as soon as possible. But first I wanted to share these high resolution scans so the Forum has a record its actual color and texture. The pics posted earlier were from the auction and were a bit 'washed out'.

Thanks again for your earlier interest and comments.

                            Hi Markus,

This is fascinating information. So we really have three Godets:
                            1. J.Godet & Sohn -- until 1925
                            2. Gebrüder Godet & Co. -- a subsidiary of WILM, after 1925
                            3. J. Godet & Sohn AG -- founded sometime between 1925 and 1934

Has anyone done any research to determine which marks on various decorations correspond to which of these Godets?

The famous Third Reich company "Gebrüder Godet & Co." at Charlottenstraße, then, was a subsid of WILM. This may explain why TR-era Godet decorations bear little resemblance to their Imperial-era counterparts. Here, am EK1 carton from the TR-era:

Does anyone know if J. Godet & Sohn AG made any TR-era awards?
                            Best regards,

Had the same thoughts Trev and put a thread in the "Crosses of the Wehrmacht" section but got no feedback at all.
