    1813 EK 2nd Class Tips

    Hi folks,
I was looking at a 1813 2nd Class EK today and I was wanting to know some tips on what to look out for.

I can tell you this, the piece in question had a painted ribbon, the core was stepped, and the iron core was starting to ruppture from internal rust it looked like.
    Regards,
    Jody

    Hi Jody,
--I'm not sure what you mean by 'rupturing'. Sometimes the older ones, usually stepped, have cores that deteriorate in a way that looks like 'pitting' or a form of EK acne. This is like the 'bubbling' on some where it looks gritty - sorta like stucco. Is this what you mean? If so, this is one thing that I personally prefer when checking these out, as opposed to a smooth or evenly worn surface.
--I also look for very narrow frames and tight ribbing and a certain crudeness (in relation to 1870 & 1914 crosses) to the details on the dated side of the core.

      Hi Bill,
Yes, rupture was the wrong term, this piece has bubbling.
      Thanks,
      Jody
