    My new EK2

The TR EK2s are beautifully made, but I think I'm beginning to love these imperial pieces more than the TR pieces now!

Here is my first KO-marked piece, just purchased at the Pomona show today. I love its ribbon!

There are many core variations with Imperials which makes them a lot of fun to collect.

Great looking cross with a ribbon that adds to it's look. Half the price of TR EK2s, but the awarded numbers are somewhere in the same range.

TR awards do not compare to elegance and beauty of pre-1918 Imperial awards in any way, shape or form. (Please do not be upset with me TR collectors – I used to be one of you)

I gave up collecting TR many years ago when I realized that to be successful one needed a PhD in fake and fraud identification. So I dumped my TR collection.

Back then I collected what motivates a lot of people collect German militaria; the “iconic image”.

                ..

Everyone, thanks for your replies! I agree that the imperial EKs are more beautiful generally than the TR EKs are.

Brad - In one category, the TR crosses are nicer - the brilliance of the arm edges on many examples are mirror-like, and many of these also have very beautiful frosting on the raised portion of the frames. Nothing, in my opinion, beats these pieces. But generally speaking, I think the imperial EKs overall are more aesthetically pleasing.

Kay - The ribbon is what caught my eye as I was looking through the dealer's display - I bought it primarily for the ribbon, but also because I didn't have a "KO" yet.

                    John.

I agree, TR crosses are made exceptionally well, but I like the individuality of Imperial pieces because they were all put together by hand, normally by jewelers and this is the root of the elegance I spoke of earlier. You can see individual difference in crosses made by the same manufacturer and this is what is appealing to me. If you want perfection and uniformity then the TR period crosses are the best choice.

I had an exceptional TR 1914 EK I, but it lacked the individuality that I see on the Imperial pieces. But, that is my own personal preference.

Either way, nice cross you have there, I only wanted to comment on your interest in Imperial pieces.

                    Brad

I've noticed this individuality of crosses that have the same maker's mark, and I think that's another thing which draws me to these imperials.

KO is one of the more commonly found makers. But that's still a very nice example of one you've got there. And as others have indicated, the ribbon it came with is outstanding. I'm sure you'll enjoy collecting Imperial EKs.

                        Best,

                        Alex
