        Hi John,

Although I've only dealt with Chris at Oakleaf once, I have a lot of respect for him. His TR items are impeccable but I've had doubts about a few (certainly not all) of his Imperial flight badges. The badge you point out there has a catch I would NOT expect to find on a pre-45 item.

Re your example, the period clique raybacks I've seen normally have the rayback separately applied. Here it is a one piece stamping. The hardware on your example is believable for a TR period item but imo not WW1 or 20s/30s.

The design of this type is a bit unusual in that the inner sections of the wreath have had to be designed to accomodate the square enamel plate (ie some of the wreath has been chopped/squared off on the die) - messy. Further, the square plate is not attached by prongs as per most period variations and the enameling does not look that great to me.

I do not know if it is genuine or fake (I'm pretty sure it would be 40s at the earliest but could be much more recent). It's not one I'd go for personally as there are too many questions for me.

        Regards
        Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Details are good on your badge, but, as Mike points out, the reverse hardware is not typical of a wartime produced badge.

Certainly all the other imperial aviation stuff on the site is questionable apart from the stamped pilot badge , that is good. This piece looks to be from the same die as the crown marked Juncker observer badge ( same cut outs in the wreath for enamel device). I do not know how the centre piece is held on as there does not seem to be any lugs on reverse as one would expect, soldered maybe?? I would leave it where it is ,Ferg1.

The oppinin is the same like other users here. All badge from this dealer are fakes. Not the best site to compare. Or you compare fakes with fakes.

Sorry but your observer badge are a modern make piece.

                Regards Alex
