    Unknown Armband

    Hi Everybody,

This is the first time I have posted in this forum. I usually collect Luftwaffe WWII. A friend of mine who collects U.S. WWI/WWII came across this armband. We are both curious. Is this an imperial piece?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe

It's probably some kind of Landsturm-armband. I can't tell you more...

My instinctive reaction is that it is AMERICAN. If I remember correctly, dimly, odd specialist "on duty" armbands like this were worn in the 19th century. This isn't "Red Cross," but some other specialty.

I'll copy this from Imperial into International in case it belongs to another country, and if it IS American, I'll repost it in there.

My thought too. In the War of Northern Agression this cross was the cap badge of the Union 5th Army Corps, the red color denoting the 1st division. Maybe an early War type of unit ID, or even from the SAW
