Deutschland in China 1900-1901

I've finally obtained the literally hundreds of photographs from the great battles between the 'Rigteous Harmonious Fists' and all the powers in China. Military powers came under the great Feldmarschall Graf von Waldersee.

Gunther von Etzel served on the Generalstab as a Hauptman.

Here's a teaser, I'll post a link to the pages as a few of them become complete. I also have the complete "Zusammenfetzung der Deutschen Land und See=Streitkrafte."

do you have a complete biographie from v. Etzel?

Christian, that's a tough one. He spent a lot of his pre-WWI time in China, Korea and Japan and I've just come into those papers and photos. The whole China conflict is very interesting to me. It was there he became a longtime friend of Pershing. Pershing mentions von Etzel in his autobiography in mention to a battle in which Pershing just beat von Etzel. They were together in Manchuria. Also, during the Russo-Japanese war von Etzel's brother was an observer attached to the Russians while he was an observer attached to the Japanese. Pershing was there, somewhere, probably with the Japanese as Pershing was a military attache there as was von Etzel, the senior German attachee...


I find this period interesting, movitves aside entirely, as so many countries were involved in a similar Imperial cause in Africa and China.

It was in the OMSA Journal waaaay back in the good old days when Republican Presidents meant what they said about reducing the defecit. I just sent him a copy (and Chrstian too)-that I got from Jeff Floyd. If you want one I'll send one to you too.
