    New Wide Frame, Difficult MM

I picked up this cross on ebay last week. The core looks the same as both of my KO crosses, but the frame is much wider. It measures 44mm plus a bit more. Ammersee

The ring is marked but I cannot decipher it. It sort of looks like it could be WILM, but the WILM crosses in the database have nice clear stamps. None of the database WILM crosses have this core either so I don't think that's it. Any ideas? Ammersee

you can forget the stamp ,,sadly
        unfortunately it is non identifiable

did you try the data bank fore KO frame comparing ?
it has a hump fore the ring ,,,,that makes it easier to find the maker.

        try KO first

        regards kay

Kay, no wide frame KO in the database. You have seen this poorly made mark before? Ammersee

Its a long mark, not 1 or 2 letters. Could be Wilm as they are one of the few to have a longer mark like that.

I seen many off these obscure marks ,,,

it can also be a mark from some tool or other damage off some use this ek is not made fore ....
look how the ring is torn out off shape

I see an KO that comes close to you're frame ,,not in widening but in the inner corners ...

              Don's cross ,,,,,, KO

I thought it was damage to the ring at first but I think it was stamped. Maybe stamped with two different marks like the KO (-M-) cross evilmike posted a few days ago?

Good eye Kay. The KO of Don's does indeed look like it has the same beading pattern as mine. Also, you did a nice job on the composite pic.

So now my core matches a marked KO, and the frame matches Don's known KO, is it safe to call my cross a KO? I think the more I study these crosses the more confusing they become. Ammersee

I've been looking at this stamp all weekend and I think I have made some progress. The letters/numbers are raised, not stamped into the ring like I first thought. I can see "800" for sure and it looks like 2 letters before the 800. Look at the red dots I've added to the pic at the right.
It is no way a CD800. There is a KO 800, which would match my core and frame, but the letters just don't look like KO. The second letter looks like the bottom of an S. Could this cross be a PS800? Ammersee

Try putting a piece of thin white papper over it and gently rub a soft pencil over it.

                      amazing job you're done ,,,,

the 800 is confirmed fore 100%

so no tool damage after all ,,a real maker mark .

                      congratulations

                      regards kay
