Schweinwerfer Section - What Unit is This?

    What unit is this?

    Pi. A. R. 120.

Note; "R 120" on the helmet cover. I would have thought that to be RIR 120, but the sign board is something different.

I have several others from the same unit with Minenwerfer etc.

    Thanks in advance.

    I meant "Scheinwerfer" not "Schweinwerfer".

I live in Schweinfurt, so it is easy to screw that up when typing.

I guess it would be interetsubg to see a "Pig Tossing" detachment, but that is not what I meant to say....sorry.

I would appreciate any help in identifying this unit.

I'm assuming that is means "Pionier Abteilung, Regiment 120", or Reserve 120. Excellent photo! You mentioned you had others. May we see some more?

I can see it now....they'd be counting, "Eins! Zwei! SCHWEIN!" just before launching the pig! LOL

What is that thing? It looks like a gas powered spotlight. Ammersee

Yes, it is a gas powered searchlight.

Here are three more photos from the same unit.

Can anyone ID the unit shown on the sign board in the first photo?

Could "Pi. A. R, 120, mean something like "Pi. Abteilung Regiment 120? Pi would indicate Pioneer, but I have never heard of a Pioneer Abteilung in an infantry regimet.

                  Any help wuold be appreciated.

I think you're on the right track ...

Pioniere des Artillerie Regiment 120 ....

those grenades may be light flares shot by regular grenade launchers ,,,,trench warfare acquirements,,,, so is the strong spot light .

                    GASS ???

                    maybe ,,just a guess

by the way ,,very impressive pictures ,,a real treasure...
you don't see that quality often in private hand .

                    regards kay

Thanks, those are some of my favorites and they were not cheap either.....

But, an Artillery Regiment with Minenwerfer? I do not see a ball on the Picklehaube

                        Brad,

                        See Post #3.

There was such a thing as a Pionier Abteilung. I have a WWI U.S. manual of German terms and it is listed there.
