    Unmarked Prussian EK1

I recently acquired this unmarked EK1. There is a long story attached to it, which can be read HERE (for Association Members). It's an unmarked Type B with a typical Godet pin -- thus I believe it is a Godet.

    Thanks for looking .

    Best regards,
    Streptile

    Trev,

What a LOOKER absolutely wonderful cross! Your pictures are always exceptional, I will have to pick your brain on how you always make your crosses so come out so nice (besides the obvious fact that they ARE nice hahaha)!

I kept track of your story for most of the ordeal but missed the final chapter. Went ahead and found out what happened. I'm really happy that you were able to get this cross. I recall you telling me how excited you were when you first saw this cross on e-bay!

I have seen Andy (Kraal) around here but have not talked with him personally. That being said, what a good guy! It's great to see how members are able/willing to help each other with such an issue (especially when it seems as unlikely and hopeless as your must have).

At any rate, at least all worked out! Great cross and exceptional friends...toss in a cocktail and cigar and I might be in heaven

    Nice find bud!

Congratulations on an extraordinary cross Trevor,

I know you've worked very hard for this particular cross. It's really a special piece. I can invision a soldier wearing this very rare cross many, many years ago.

      Happy for you,
      Robert

Okay, I read your story and glad you got the nice 1870 cross. I am confused, though. What does the 1939 spange have to do with Dieter and the 1870 cross? Without Andy, do you think Dieter would have eventually sent your cross or was he really out to rip you off? Anyway, all well that ends well. Ammersee

Oh yeah I like this one!

I usually dislike damages, but the broken core on this perfect condition cross adds something.. special..

It looks old and wise, shiny and new on the same way with a great ancient aura!

Just needs to have a case

                greetings

do I see some metal ( in sinking off the metal) in the core ,, ??
or is it just the light ?

                    regards kay.

Great piece. Not uncommon to see cracked cores on 1870 EK2s, so I guess EK1s are no different. When you find a good one of these you have to grab it. A real showcase piece.

Thank you to everyone for the nice words. I love this cross.

Kay -- yes, the core has some imperfections, some pitting, just like your Type A Godet. I suppose it was a common problem with the sand-cast cores, just like cracking, as Steve pointed out. I think the pitting and the crack give this cross an interesting look. Combined with what can only be called unbelievably superb craftsmanship (seams, hinge, pin, catch, frame strike), these "flaws" do give this cross a look and feel that is simultaneously "old and wise, and shiny and new," as Andy said.

Ammersee -- the EK1 Spange, as I mentioned in the other thread, was just one of a few nice items from my collection that I loved, but sold to fund this one piece. That's the connection.

Impressive as always Trev, your Godet collection is (almost) perfect now.

Did you have time to compare the frame to the ones here:
