    Anyone recognize this General's Uniform?

    Anyone recognize this General's Uniform?

Hello All……. Does anyone recognize the General’s Uniform group ?

It’s about the 1880-1890 period…. All I know is that it is coming out of a European Imperial collection that has been slowly liquidated of the past few years….. I have been offered the group through a 3rd party and I’m looking for any more information on the set….

    Any assistance would be helpful…

    Cheers

    Mark

          Hi Mark
What makes this tough, is there is no difference between a senior field officer's Waffenrock, and the lowest Lt. Especially when the Waffenrock has slip-on shoulder boards like that. Pre 1895 cap, (single Kokarde, teensy brim). I know nothing about General's ranks as I focus on Mannschaften, but I believe (?) the General's collar Litzen was not worn on daily service dress, nor do I know when it was introduced, so this could be correct. But really, pop off the shoulder boards and it's a $275 Waffenrock and a $250 cap. Sorry I could offer nothing useful, except perhaps keep this in mind? Tony

              Buttons

There is actually a subtle difference in the Prussian General Officers' Waffenrock to those of more junior ranks - the extra buttons on the skirt which was always un-buttoned. The altpreußisch embroidery was introduced for the service dress on the 22nd of March 1900.

              Regards
              Glenn

                Hey Tony,

Glenn is correct...... The standard Officer's tunic had an 8 button front where-as the General's rank tunic had a 12 button front.......... and the litzen did not appear until 1900 (collar and cuff)..... Also... the General's tunic was the only one that was completely lined in red........

                  Glenn and Mark,

Very interesting. I am sure those two subtle features just killed about 95% of the "Generals" Waffenrock out there.
